چکیده

We describe the transverse beam distribution in particle accelerators within the controlled, stochastic dynamical scheme of the stochastic mechanics which produces time reversal invariant diffusion processes. In this paper we analyze the consequences of introducing the generalized Student laws, namely non-Gaussian, Lévy infinitely divisible (but not stable) distributions. We will analyze this idea from two different standpoints: (a) first by supposing that the stationary distribution of our (Wiener powered) stochastic model is a Student distribution; (b) by supposing that our model is based on a (non-Gaussian) Lévy process whose increments are Student distributed. In the case (a) the longer tails of the power decay of the Student laws, and in the case (b) the discontinuities of the Lévy–Student process can well account for the rare escape of particles from the beam core, and hence for the formation of a halo in intense beams. r 2006 Elsevier B.V. Lévy-Student distributions for halos in accelerator beams.

We describe the transverse beam distribution in particle accelerators within the controlled, stochastic dynamical scheme of stochastic mechanics (SM) which produces time reversal invariant diffusion processes. This leads to a linearized theory summarized in a Schrödinger-like (SL) equation. The space charge effects have been introduced in recent papers by coupling this S-L equation with the Max...

On simulation from the marginal distribution of a Student t and generalized hyperbolic Lévy process

Note that several slightly different parameterizations are used, in particular 2ν instead of ν. It is well-known since [5] that this distribution is infinitely divisible, thus there is a Lévy process X such that X(1) ∼ Tν . While there is a simple elegant one-liner (Bailey’s method), see [2], to simulate from the distribution of X(1), ie Tν , it seems, that very little is known about simulating...

Modelling by Lévy Processes for Financial Econometrics

This paper reviews some recent work in which Lévy processes are used to model and analyse time series from financial econometrics. A main feature of the paper is the use of positive OrnsteinUhlenbeck (OU) type processes inside stochastic volatility processes. The basic probability theory associated with such models is discussed in some detail.

Medium Term Hydroelectric Production Planning - A Multistage Stochastic Optimization Model

Multistage stochastic programming is a key technology for making decisions over time in an uncertain environment. One of the promising areas in which this technology is implementable, is medium term planning of electricity production and trading where decision makers are typically faced with uncertain parameters (such as future demands and market prices) that can be described by stochastic proc...

Existence of Affine Realizations for Stochastic Partial Differential Equations Driven by Lévy Processes

The goal of this paper is to clarify when a semilinear stochastic partial differential equation driven by Lévy processes admits an affine realization. Our results are accompanied by several examples arising in natural sciences and economics.
